On Plaza Sur, the Land and Marine iguana nesting seasons overlap just a bit. From 1980 until recent years, we have been observing these hybrids. They are facinating as their characteristics are an exact intermediate between each species. Subsequent DNA testing has borne out our hypothesis that the mother is a late nesting Land iguana. We have fondly called them Wierdos.
