Multipitch Introduction - Revenge of the Elderly 20120511

Bill Lawry and I took Diane Coady-Ramsay and Sylvia Dawson up Revenge of the Elderly's four pitches for their NMMC Multi-pitch Introduction Climb on 5/11/12. A great day! Because Gary Gilliand brought up his team behind us, we used a different descent than usual, rappelling to the anchors at the end of P1 of Emerald City and then a second rappel to the base of ROE. This kept us from rappelling down on top of Gary's team.

  • Bill Lawry heads down to the Emerald City anchors. He, Diane, and Sylvia rappelled a single line (notice that Bill's carrying another rope). Once Bill reached the Emerald City anchors he set the 2nd rope as another single line. I then rigged this rappel with a 2nd rope (the one that Diane and I climbed on). When I reached the EC anchors, I released the single rope Bill had set there, pulled the double rope from the ROE anchors, rigged the double rope on the EC anchors and rapped off. Lots of rope handling, but it got us off the route quickly.
