North end west Whiskey Peak. Summit ridge behind visible crest. Named 3 buttresses on face. North Buttress up left side right of low point with pinkish patch, Middle Buttress between 2 clefts, South Buttress right of right cleft.
Bill checks out possible routes on the W Face of Whiskey Peak
Three Buttresses of West Face of Whiskey Peak. Those two clefts are deep, spooky places! Wish we'd had time to poke into them.
North Buttress, West Face Whiskey Peak. Actual summit directly behind top of buttress & probably another 300 feet up. Bill & I climbed gully left of the buttress - bit sketchy 4th class in spots - wouldn't want to descend w/o rope.
South Buttress. This looked like a good route - running up right of the cleft to the right facing dihedral near top then through the roof. Click to enlarge.
Detail of roof section of upper S Buttress.
South slope, south of South Buttress. Certainly some single pitch potential here, maybe multi-pitch to left.
Whiskey Slab. This is far S along the Whiskey Peak Ridge. Looks like a great slab route. Potentially protectable.
